Biography

Fredrik Giertsen is a freelance journalist from Norway, born in Oslo in 1966. Over the years he has contributed to such Norwegian newspapers as Dagbladet, Aftenposten, Aftenposten Innsikt, Bokvennen, Morgenbladet, Klassekampen, Ny Tid, Dagsavisen, Blend, Plan and Utrop.

He holds an MA in comparative literature from the University of Oslo, and has also studied history, political science, political geography and the Spanish language.

Fredrik specializes in cultural analysis, using examples from literature and film, and drawing on personal experience from his own trips - he has visited a total of more than 70 countries. Some of his background articles are found under the heading "cultural features". Throughout his extensive travels he has also produced a number of city portraits and conducted several portrait interviews, mainly with writers.
